How to Install IPTV on LG Smart TV

Before You Start

Have your Viking IPTV HD access details ready — either an Xtream Codes login (server URL, username, password) or an M3U playlist link — and make sure you're signed into an LG account on the TV, since Content Store downloads require it.

It's also worth checking your webOS version first. Go to Settings > General > About This TV to see it — older webOS versions (webOS 3 and earlier, common on TVs from around 2016–2018) have a smaller Content Store catalog than webOS 6 or later, which affects whether a suitable player app turns up in search.

The Magic Remote — What's Different

LG's Magic Remote controls an on-screen cursor by pointing and moving your wrist, rather than navigating with directional arrow presses the way most other remotes do. This works well for LG's own webOS menus, but a lot of third-party player apps are built primarily around D-pad-style navigation and can feel imprecise with the pointer active.

Most Magic Remotes let you switch modes: press and hold the center OK/wheel button for a second, or check the app's own input settings, and the pointer will disengage in favor of directional navigation using the outer ring as a D-pad. If a player app feels awkward to navigate with the cursor visibly floating around the screen, switching to wheel/arrow mode first is worth trying before assuming the app itself has a problem.

Choosing and Installing a Player

Open the LG Content Store from the home screen and search for an IPTV or media player app. As with Samsung's Tizen, availability isn't guaranteed — it depends on your TV model, webOS version and region, and LG's store is more curated than Android TV's.

If a suitable app is listed, select Install and wait for the download. If nothing usable turns up, the more reliable route on LG TVs — same as on Samsung — is connecting a Firestick or Android TV box to an HDMI input and installing a player there instead. Adding Your IPTV Details

Open the player app — on the TV directly if you found one in the Content Store, or on your external device otherwise — and choose your connection type. For Xtream Codes, enter your server URL, username and password exactly as given. For M3U, paste in your playlist link as a single field.

Typing long strings with the Magic Remote's on-screen keyboard is where most setup mistakes happen — the pointer makes it easy to tap an adjacent character by accident. Loading Channels and EPG

Once your login or playlist is accepted, the app downloads your channel list and, where supported, EPG data. This can take a little longer over Wi-Fi than over a wired connection, especially on older webOS hardware with less onboard memory.

If the program guide doesn't populate right away, check the app's settings for a manual EPG refresh rather than reinstalling — the guide data source is often separate from the channel list itself and doesn't always finish loading at the same moment.

Common Setup Problems

• App closes unexpectedly — more common on older webOS versions with limited memory when several background processes are running; restart the TV and try again.
• Cursor navigation makes menus hard to use — switch the Magic Remote to wheel/arrow mode from the app or system settings.
• Content Store has no suitable app — use an external HDMI device instead, following the same setup path.
• Login accepted but no channels load — check your network connection under Settings > Network > Wi-Fi Connection before re-entering credentials.

Tips for Better Streaming

• Prefer a wired connection if your TV's location allows it — webOS TVs can be more sensitive to Wi-Fi congestion than dedicated streaming boxes.
• Keep webOS updated, since LG periodically patches app compatibility issues in system updates.
• If a previously working setup suddenly misbehaves after a system update, a restart resolves it more often than a full reinstall.
