How to Install IPTV on Samsung Smart TV

A step-by-step walkthrough for getting an IPTV player running on a Samsung Tizen TV, from picking an app to loading your first channel.

Samsung Smart TVs run Tizen, and Tizen's app store doesn't always carry a dedicated IPTV player — that part is covered on our Samsung Smart TV device page. This article picks up from there and walks through the actual setup workflow step by step, for whichever route ends up working on your TV: a Tizen app if one's available, or an external streaming device plugged into an HDMI port if it isn't.

Before You Start

Setup goes faster if your subscription details are ready before you touch the remote. You should have your Xtream Codes login (a server URL, username and password) or an M3U playlist link from Viking IPTV HD, plus a Samsung account signed in on the TV for Smart Hub access.

It's also worth deciding upfront how you'll connect: directly through a Tizen app if one's listed for your TV and region, or through an external device such as a Firestick or Android TV box plugged into HDMI if Smart Hub doesn't have a suitable option. Knowing which path you're on before you start avoids switching back and forth mid-setup.

What You Need

  • A Samsung account signed in on the TV
  • A stable Wi-Fi or, ideally, wired ethernet connection
  • Your Viking IPTV HD server URL, username and password, or your M3U link
  • About 10 minutes if a Tizen app is available, longer if you're setting up an external device instead

Choosing an IPTV Player

Start by searching Smart Hub directly on the TV — press the Home button, open the Apps section, and search for an IPTV or media player app. What comes up varies by TV model, firmware version and region, so there's no single app guaranteed to be there.

If something suitable does appear, that's the simplest path. If Smart Hub search turns up nothing usable, the more reliable option on Samsung TVs is connecting a Firestick or Android TV box to an HDMI port and installing a player there instead — IPTV Smarters Pro is a widely used choice on both of those platforms. This isn't a workaround so much as the standard approach for Tizen, since Samsung's app store is more curated than Android TV's.

Installing the Player

If you found an app in Smart Hub: select it, choose Install, and wait for it to download — Tizen installs are generally quick since the apps involved are lightweight.

If you're going the external-device route instead: set up the Firestick or Android TV box first following its own setup flow, install a player app from its app store, then switch your Samsung TV's input to that HDMI port. From here on, the remaining steps below happen inside the player app on the external device, not inside Tizen itself.

Adding Your IPTV Details

Open the player app and look for an option to add a new user, playlist or connection — most players ask you to choose a connection type before anything else.

For Xtream Codes, you'll fill in three fields: server (or portal) URL, username and password, exactly as provided in your Viking IPTV HD access details. For M3U, you'll paste in a single playlist URL instead. If you're unsure which method you have, our Xtream Codes and M3U playlist guides explain both formats, and a mistyped character in either is the single most common reason a first login fails. If you ended up on IPTV Smarters Pro specifically, our Smarters Pro + Xtream Codes walkthrough covers this exact step field by field.

Loading Channels

Once your details are accepted, the app downloads your channel list and VOD library in the background — this can take anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes depending on the size of the list and your connection speed. Give it a moment before assuming something's wrong.

When it's done, you should see live TV channels organized into categories, plus a VOD or series section if your subscription includes one. Open a channel to confirm playback actually works before you consider setup finished.

EPG Setup

Most players load the EPG — the on-screen program guide — automatically alongside your channel list. If the guide grid looks empty right after setup, check the app's settings for an EPG refresh or reload option rather than assuming it's broken; the channel list and the guide data don't always finish loading at exactly the same time.

Common Setup Problems

  • No suitable app in Smart Hub — this is a Tizen-store limitation, not something you can force; use an external HDMI device instead.
  • Login rejected — recheck your server URL, username and password character by character, including capitalization.
  • App disappears after a firmware update — Tizen updates occasionally reset Smart Hub's installed-app list; reinstall if needed.
  • Playback works but the guide is empty — refresh EPG from the app's settings rather than reinstalling.

Tips for Better Streaming

  • Use a wired ethernet connection where your setup allows it — it's more stable than Wi-Fi for sustained playback.
  • If you're on Wi-Fi, keep the TV reasonably close to your router, or use a mesh access point in the same room.
  • Restart the TV (or the external device) occasionally to clear background processes that build up over time.
  • If playback is inconsistent, work through our buffering guide rather than reinstalling the app first.

FAQ

Do all Samsung Smart TVs support IPTV apps directly?

Not consistently. Tizen's app store availability varies by TV model, firmware version and region, so a dedicated IPTV player isn't guaranteed to be listed on every Samsung TV.

Is it better to use a Tizen app or an external device?

If a Tizen app is available for your TV, it's the simpler path. If not, connecting a Firestick or Android TV box is generally the more dependable option on Samsung TVs, since it isn't limited by Smart Hub's curated store.

Why does my channel list take a while to appear after login?

Larger channel lists and VOD libraries take a moment to download and organize the first time. This is normal — give it a minute or two before troubleshooting.
